Hello, everyone. It’s Amanda McCracken dropping by to share some intel I found regarding the trial situation in our circuit (Conecuh & Monroe Counties). The Alabama Administrative Office of Courts publishes an official report that gives statistics on cases and trials in each circuit. According to this report, only 1 criminal jury trial was even held in our circuit in the four year period spanning FY 2017 - 2020. 1 trial. For context, this circuit has more than 30 people currently awaiting trial for murder…. At this rate, it would take that office 120+ years to get through just the murder case backlog. It’s so sad that despite the judge wanting trials, the defense attorneys wanting trials, the police investigators wanting trials, etc, the DA’s office is somehow weaseling it’s way out of trying cases.
